Do you get really excited when you think

about being self-employed…

but then freeze up

when you think about marketing?

Does marketing seem like a four-letter word to you?

Does it seem dishonest, manipulative, pushy, or oily?

When it comes to your business, would you rather learn about anything else…

…get good at anything else…

do anything else…

Anything But Marketing?

It’s overwhelming. Everywhere you look there’s another marketing guru with the system that will “rocket your business to six figures a month.”

But you’re not even sure how people send out e-mail newsletters.

The thought of networking makes you queasy – actually physically uncomfortable.

Public speaking? Just shoot me now!

Writing a compelling message for a brochure or a flyer
– or (gulp!) a web page –
sounds impossible.

You’re willing to do anything it takes to have a successful business:

• You’ll put in hundreds of hours – thousands even – becoming an expert
• You’ll treat your customers with the greatest respect
• You’ll have the most welcoming store or office
• You’ll use the highest quality materials
• You’ll pinch every penny until it screams
• You’ll do anything you have to do

Anything, that is, but marketing.

I’ve been there. In fact, in a lot of ways, I’m still there. I hesitate when it’s time to think about marketing my business. I get immediately suspicious of any new marketing ideas I hear.

And I trained to be a marketing consultant!!

I still struggle against aspects of marketing. I still automatically look for the hype and the deceit in marketing. I’m still a huge skeptic about marketing.

And that translates into me finding what is honest, authentic, and real in marketing, where people use compelling truth and compassion for others to communicate with their audience in a powerful way.

I’m a marketing skeptic, too.

My skepticism has helped me understand the reluctance you feel when it comes time to learn about marketing. I can give you a clear example or a key piece of information that helps you as a marketing newbie understand a concept so it’s no longer strange or foreign. I can break the techniques and systems into simple steps so you can learn them one at a time.

Over the years I’ve gathered stories and anecdotes with examples of marketing techniques, done well and done poorly. Each one teaches lessons about marketing from the point of view of a person experiencing the marketing technique or interacting with the business – someone who’s part of the target audience.

Here’s my gift for you.

I’ve put together a collection of these stories for you with their lessons and tips. They are available as a a fr*ee e-book called Demystifying Marketing: Easy Examples in Everyday Language (the Sampler Teaser version). This sampler teaser version includes ten articles that each explain a marketing concept in a straightforward, real-life way that you can apply to your own business. It is adapted from a longer, more in-depth e-book that will be available soon for you to purchase. The full version will contain dozens of articles plus additional tips and descriptions to tie them together.

When you sign up for the fr*ee version of Demystifying Marketing you will receive a link in your e-mail in-box to read it online or download it.

You’ll also be signed up for occasional messages from Twisting Road Traveler. I’ll e-mail you The Traveler to give you information and ideas to help you break free from other people’s stifling boxes and cubicles. I show you how to clear away the limiting beliefs and groupthink that are keeping you from becoming the person you were born to be. In fact, the main reason I teach marketing concepts is that marketing empowers you to take charge of your life. You’ll notice that approach in Demystifying Marketing.

I don’t send out a lot of messages through The Traveler, and I don’t send them too often. Just once in a while, maybe twice a month. I promise.

And I will never sell, rent, or trade your information. Not ever. Period!
